“Triumph of democracy”?
Party leader Alice Weidel on Monday celebrated the “historic election result,” which she called a “dream result” achieved by AfD. According to her, this is the party’s best result “by a wide margin.”

She noted that this triumph was due to many previously non-voting voters coming out to support her party, which she considers a “triumph of democracy.”

French Minister for European Affairs Benjamin Haddad stated that the overwhelming victory of Germany’s far-right party is a “serious moment.”

“We must humbly listen to the anger, concerns, fears and respond to them,” he added.
“But nationalism and xenophobia will never be the solution,” emphasized B. Haddad. “We cannot forget our history. That is the meaning of the choices of France and Germany.”
French Finance Minister Roland Lescure joined these warnings, noting that Europe faces a “huge challenge posed by the populist wave” across the continent.
“Idiots or traitors”
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk was not so restrained in reacting to the “Alternative for Germany” victory in the East German state parliament elections.
In a post published on the social network “X,” the prime minister condemned Poles who support such an election result, calling them “idiots” or “traitors.”
“Only idiots or traitors in Poland can rejoice at AfD’s triumph in Germany,” he said.
D. Tusk added that many such people are in the parties “Confederation” and “Law and Justice” (PiS).
Meanwhile, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski called the far-right victory in Germany a “great cause for concern” signal for Europe.
Italy divided
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani called the election result “terrible news… because it concerns a political force that opposes liberal and Western values,” writes the newspaper “Corriere della Sera.”
However, a member of the same government, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, welcomed the voting results and called them a “resounding success that shows a great need for change, security, and jobs.”

Meanwhile, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has not yet commented on the election results.

The wave of reactions across Europe to the election results did not leave former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban indifferent, who welcomed AfD’s victory, saying it was a “huge night for Germany and Europe!”

Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s envoy Kirill Dmitriev took a screenshot of US President Donald Trump’s post about Saxony-Anhalt and praised the “historic ‘pragmatic’ AfD victory.”
