Violent attacks

On Saturday, hundreds of thousands of people participated in an event known in Germany as Christopher Street Day.

The march ended at the Brandenburg Gate, where concerts had been held since Friday.

A 20-year-old Syrian, identified only as Wassim al M., was jailed for 13 years in March for that attack, which severely injured a Spanish tourist.

Last month, a 51-year-old psychiatrist from Saudi Arabia was sentenced to life in prison for killing six people and injuring over 300.

In 2024, he drove a rented SUV into a crowd at a Christmas market in the eastern city of Magdeburg.

The deadliest such attack in recent years occurred in December 2016, when a truck driven by a jihadist crashed into a Berlin Christmas market, killing 12 people.
