The statement appeared ahead of new talks in Rome.
In a television address, N. Qassem said that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun “did not act as an arbitrator or unifying figure” and that he “became biased and divisive, which is incompatible with his role and Lebanon’s strength.”

The Hezbollah leader also said he did not oppose a meeting with the Syrian leadership. He expressed this position for the first time.
His Iran-backed group fought for the former Syrian government, which was overthrown in 2024.

“There are no obstacles to a public meeting between Hezbollah and the Syrian leadership at a time suitable for both parties,” N. Qassem said in the television address, emphasizing “the importance and necessity of positive, fraternal, and cooperation-based relations.”
Hezbollah has supported the long-time Syrian leader Bashar al Assad in the country’s civil war for many years, and Syria was the main supply route to Lebanon from Iran until the new Islamist leadership took power in December 2024.
