During the solemn ceremony, the French Ambassador to Lithuania, Lucie Stepanyan, presented the award for the politician’s merits in strengthening bilateral relations and European security. This award recognized Gabrielius Landsbergis’s contribution to nurturing democracy and the European project, promoting dialogue between countries, and strengthening French-Lithuanian relations.

The important moment was surrounded by the politician’s closest people. Gabrielius Landsbergis’s wife Austėja and children, who came to congratulate him, did not hide their pride in this significant recognition.
Gabrielius Landsbergis was a member of the European Parliament and the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, and from 2020 to 2024 served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.

In his political activity, he actively supported Ukraine, resisting Russian aggression, and the democratic aspirations of the Eastern Partnership countries. He also consistently defended the principle of multilateralism, freedom of speech, human rights, and the rule of law – principles and values that France defends and nurtures in its diplomatic work. This award honors not only the political but also the intellectual and civic activities of G. Landsbergis.
