According to her, more contracts were signed this year than last year – during the main admission in 2025, 17.3 thousand applicants signed contracts. At the same time, the same number of young people received state funding – 11.7 thousand.

According to the Ministry’s data, 11.7 thousand first-year students will start studies at universities this year, of which 8.2 thousand are in state-funded places.
At colleges, contracts were signed by 6.7 thousand first-year students, of which 3.4 thousand are for state-funded places.
This year’s Lithuanian high school graduates also signed more study contracts than last year – 11.3 thousand (there were 10.3 thousand in 2025): 8.7 thousand at universities, 2.6 thousand at colleges.
The university study programs that invited the most students receiving state funding are economics and finance, law, and medicine. At colleges – general practice nursing and international business.
Among universities, the most study contracts with future students were signed by Vilnius University, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Vytautas Magnus University (VDU), Kaunas University of Technology, and Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.
In the college sector, the most study contracts were signed with Vilnius College, Kaunas College, Klaipėda State College, Lithuanian Engineering College, Utena College.
More study contracts were signed this year for education science study programs – 1.3 thousand first-year students signed them, in 2025 – 1.2 thousand.

Most contracts were signed for Kaunas College’s Preschool and Pre-primary Education, VDU Subject Pedagogy, and VDU Special Pedagogical Support programs.
As in previous years, the state prioritized study programs in primary education, special pedagogy, mathematics, Lithuanian language and literature, physics, chemistry, biology, information technology, history, geography, German and French languages.
More applicants were also admitted to study in state-funded study places in these programs – 504 first-year students signed study contracts, in 2025 – 466.
The number of admissions to mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and electrical engineering increased by more than 15%, and to bioengineering – twice as many.
Admission to universities and colleges took place according to two competitive rounds: the second competitive round could be used by applicants from socially vulnerable backgrounds or those with practical work experience.
800 first-year students were invited to state-funded places under this round, of whom 696 signed study contracts.
BNS wrote that additional admission to universities and colleges is taking place from Tuesday. Applications for the remaining free study places at universities and colleges can be submitted until Friday at 12 o’clock.
