The club occupying 11th place in the second Lithuanian football division announced on Tuesday that it had sold head coach David Muslera Rodriguez “for a buyout”.
Interestingly, the 40-year-old specialist had signed a contract with “Jonava” just 10 days ago – on July 4th.
“D.M. Rodriguez is climbing the career ladder – the coach is transferring to the Bosnian and Herzegovinian top league club ‘Željezničar’ for a buyout,” writes “Jonava”. “This is one of the most unique cases in the history of the Lithuanian First League – the coach transfers to another club for a buyout without having conducted a single official ‘Jonava’ training session. We thank David and wish him the greatest success continuing his career at another blue and white club.”
Born in Madrid, D.M. Rodriguez holds a UEFA PRO coaching license and has experience in the systems of Spanish clubs such as Madrid’s “Atletico”, “Leganes”, and “Getafe”, and upon arriving in Jonava promised to “repay the warm welcome and trust shown with good football and good results”.

In Lithuania, the strategist successfully worked with the youth of Kaunas BE1 academy, winning Lithuanian and Baltic youth league championship titles, and later led Panevėžys “Ekranas” (2024) and Vilnius BFA team (2024–2026).
The “Željezničar” team finished 6th out of 10 clubs in the last Bosnian and Herzegovinian football championship.
