Ethical guards will collect additional material regarding Laura Matjošaitytė's consultations for "Nemuno aušra"

Ethics watchdogs decided to do this at the commission meeting held on Wednesday.

VTEK began considering this issue at the end of August, after receiving a report from an individual regarding L. Matjošaitytė’s possible violation of the law.

In August, the news portal “Delfi” reported that before returning to the VRK, L. Matjošaitytė consulted “Nemuno aušra” regarding the membership fee and helped prepare the party’s response to the commission.

Having become a member of the VRK last May, L. Matjošaitytė did not publicly declare consultations with the “aušra” members. Initially refusing to disclose whether she received payment from the party, the lawyer later stated that she did not earn money.

L. Matjošaitytė claims she did not experience a conflict of interest while working in the commission on matters related to “Nemuno aušra”.

Robertas Puchovičius, vice-chairman of “Nemuno aušra,” confirmed that the party communicated with L. Matjošaitytė, while the party leader Remigijus Žemaitaitis last week called the media’s examination of connections between the party and L. Matjošaitytė absurd.

BNS wrote that from 2017 to 2021, L. Matjošaitytė was the chair of the VRK. She returned to the commission member position last May, with her and lawyer Maksimas Reznikovas’ candidacies submitted by then Minister of Justice Rimantas Mockus, delegated by “Nemuno aušra”.

In May 2025, the newly composed commission decided on violations related to the financing of “Nemuno aušra”‘s political campaign. In some votes, L. Matjošaitytė agreed that the party committed violations, while in others she abstained.

The VRK member stated that these votes did not constitute a conflict of interest or grounds for recusal, as upon returning to work in the commission she does not provide consultations to political organizations.
