Eight people died in a plane crash at the US Air Force base in Alaska

A civilian aircraft crashed at the Niuenham Peninsula, at the airport of the Long Range Radar Station located on the southwestern edge of the state, according to a statement from the Alaska leadership.

Rescuers who landed near the crash site “confirmed that there were no survivors,” the statement said.

The statement does not specify what the individuals on the plane were doing at the radar station, which tracks aircraft flying in Alaska’s airspace.

An Alaska leadership press representative said the cause of the disaster is being investigated, and the names of the deceased will be announced after their relatives have been informed.

“This is a huge loss for our military family and the communities we serve,” said Alaska leadership head Robert Davis.

“These individuals were dedicated professionals carrying out a vital mission in a challenging environment,” added Lieutenant General R. Davis.
