„In January 1991 and during the August coup, these people showed great personal courage. They defended the Giruliai TV tower, the Klaipėda city council building, and other important sites. They worked in the Klaipėda defense committee, contributing to efforts to withdraw the Soviet army from Lithuania,“ said Speaker of the Seimas Juozas Olekas while presenting the award.

The awards were presented to Šarūnas Jagminas, Algimantas Jucius, Vanda Kavaliauskienė, Vytautas Lupeika, Leonas Makūnas, Audrius Pauža, Nijolė Požarskienė, and Julius Praleika.
