“The Russians are actively preparing sabotage operations aimed at Denmark’s defense industry,” said E. Graesholm, head of counterintelligence at the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET), in an interview with the newspaper Berlingske.
“It is essentially important that the defense industry in the broad sense takes the necessary security measures to be able to protect itself,” he emphasized to the broadcaster TV2.
“Many sector participants are already actively working on this,” added E. Graesholm.
According to him, Russian security services aim to recruit “completely ordinary Danes” for their missions.
These missions, for example, may involve photographing, checking access and security conditions around an object, and reporting on it.
“We are talking about methods because they do not need to look like a spy movie,” he told the newspaper Berlingske.
This warning appeared after the European Union (EU) countries summoned Russian envoys and discussed new sanctions following the incident with an explosive-laden drone in Germany.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said this has signs of “state-sponsored terrorism.”
In recent months, Russia has been accused of intensifying sabotage attacks against Ukraine’s supporters in Europe, as Moscow’s forces stall on the front line in Ukraine.
