Mindaugas and Keitė represented two different sides of the barricades. On Keitė’s side of private schools were brothers Darjušas and Kšištofas Lavrinovičiai, businessman Marius Jovaiša raising four children, and Birutė Jakučionytė, a mother of four who even emigrated from Lithuania due to poor public schools.
Meanwhile, on Mindaugas’s side of public schools, we saw father of two daughters, singer Paulius Bagdanavičius, father of three Karolis Akulavičius from the group “2 – Karolis and Donatas,” and the mother of Lithuania’s most famous quartet, Viktorija Solovej.
The show featured a variety of opinions. For example, Birutė, who raises four children, admitted to having a very poor opinion of Lithuanian public schools, which is why she moved to the United Kingdom with her children 13 years ago.
“I went where they could be less psychologically traumatized by school,” she said openly on the show.
According to Birutė, Lithuanian education is too broad, while English education is more focused on depth.
“This means that if I am very good at a language or kicking a ball, no one emphasizes the things I am not good at. But in Lithuanian public education, we emphasize more what children fail at, what they do worst. Because of this, tutors have to be hired. You invest not in the child’s strengths but in their weaknesses. You spend not only a lot of money but also create a certain feeling of inadequacy in the child, that something is missing,” she said.

That children today have to hire tutors at a very young age was also admitted by K. Akulavičius.
“Rojus is my child. He wants to participate a lot in sports, music, and be a leader in class. I tell him, Rojus, you will burn out a bit from that, and I always teach him that he doesn’t have to be first everywhere. Sometimes it’s better to lose 10 times and develop character,” the singer said.
K. Akulavičius also has to pay a lot for his daughter’s extracurricular activities – ballroom dancing. According to the singer, the girl inherited this talent from her mother, and now, still in kindergarten, she attends the group with third-grade students, even five times a week. However, not only the activity itself but also the fancy dresses thin the pockets. One dress can cost up to 700 euros!
Meanwhile, singer P. Bagdanavičius recently moved with his family to Marijampolė, although his daughter had the opportunity to attend a prestigious arts school in the capital. However, during the first meeting with the teachers, Paulius’s wife heard that in such a case, childhood would end – children would start hard work.
As Paulius tells, when returning home from this meeting, his wife said: “You know, Paulius, we definitely won’t take our children there anymore.”
“She said she doesn’t want to take away childhood from the child and form an attitude that he always has to be close to perfect without any enjoyment,” added Paulius, saying that instead the family later chose a simple music school.
