Local “Storm Hunters” groups posted dramatic videos and photos online showing the effects of 100 km/h wind gusts, rain, and huge hailstones.
“A strong thunderstorm (so-called supercell) is approaching Kalisz [in central western Poland] from the west,” meteorologist Piotr Szuster from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management and the “Skywarn Polska – Polish storm hunters” association reported on Saturday afternoon.

Storm ravaged Vilnius County

Meteorologist Elena Kliukina told the broadcaster that nearly 35 mm of rain fell in Vilnius district, almost 27 mm in Varėna district, and heavy rain also occurred in Švenčionys, Šeduva, Biržai, and Pakruojis.
“Eastern Lithuania received the most rain and, of course, the rain was accompanied by thunder, with wind gusts in some places,” E. Kliukina noted.
