M. Sinkevičius, commenting on Thursday about the tension that has lasted since summer with the Olympic pentathlon champion and current Social Democrat politician in the Seimas, made a comparison that if she decides to leave the faction, it would be L. Asadauskaitė’s second divorce.

“I am determined to make efforts for Asadauskaitė to remain a member of our community, to work in the faction. If she decides otherwise herself, of course, it is her will.
If such a divorce is unavoidable, it would probably be the second one. I may not be referring entirely correctly to personal life divorces,” M. Sinkevičius told journalists in the Seimas.
L. Asadauskaitė divorced her long-time husband, pentathlete Andrejus Zadneprovski, back in May, and she took this remark from the prime minister and Social Democrat leader as an insult.
M. Sinkevičius apparently realized he made a mistake when saying this and publicly apologized to the parliamentarian on Thursday.
“Today in the Seimas I was asked about colleague Laura Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė’s considerations about leaving the party. In response, I chose inappropriate words. I did not want to offend anyone. I have already apologized to Laura personally and want to do so again publicly,” the prime minister wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
“Whatever Laura’s decision about her political future may be, I hope there will be no hard feelings,” he added.
About L. Asadauskaitė’s reaction, M. Sinkevičius hinted to journalists on Friday while visiting Šventoji.
L. Asadauskaitė told 15min that she accepts the apology and understands that everyone can make mistakes.
However, the parliamentarian says this will influence her further political decisions – she did not hide that other parties are already interested in her possible move “and not only.”
