About 10 thousand early rehabilitation services for children with developmental disorders in the day hospital are provided annually at the polyclinic – this is almost a quarter of all such services provided in the Vilnius region. It is planned that with improved service conditions, the polyclinic will be able to provide up to 12 thousand services per year, according to a press release.
Data shows that the demand for these services is steadily growing. Last year, 572 children attended the early rehabilitation group for children with developmental disorders, and in the first half of 2026, services have already been provided to over 400 young patients.
“Investing in children’s health and well-being is one of the most important investments in the future of Vilnius. We see that the demand for early rehabilitation services is growing, so we must not only increase their availability but also ensure that children and their families receive services in a modern, cozy, and needs-adapted environment.
The new spaces created in the polyclinic will allow specialists to work under even better conditions, and young patients to experience rehabilitation in a more comfortable environment. Step by step, we are creating a health system that is closer to people and responds to the needs of growing Vilnius,” says Vilnius city mayor Valdas Benkunskas.
The new premises of more than 770 sq. m, where early rehabilitation services for children with developmental disorders will be provided, were acquired last spring with the approval of the Vilnius city municipality council.
“Early rehabilitation for children is not only a treatment and support process for the child – it is work together with the family. Therefore, not only competence or modern methods are important, but also the environment where everyone – both the young patient and their relatives – feels safe and comfortable.
Usually, a child visits here dozens of times, and in more complex cases, many more services are needed. This means that this place becomes a significant part of the family’s daily life. I am glad that from now on it will be cozier, more comfortable, and adapted to everyone’s needs,” says Vilnius deputy mayor Simona Bieliūnė.

Spaces adapted to the needs of children and their families
More than 300 thousand euros of the institution’s funds were invested in the arrangement of the new premises. The new C building of the polyclinic is convenient for children and their accompanying relatives not only because of the separate private entrance but also due to functionally planned spaces.
The 320 sq. m premises are arranged so as not to unnecessarily distract children; the environment is calm, cozy, and uncluttered. Specialist offices, a sensory room, spaces for therapeutic activities, and common rooms for staff are arranged here.
Important services are expanding in Šeškinė and Pilaitė
A priority of the Vilnius city municipality in the health sector is to expand mental health care services provided to children with developmental disorders and to children and adolescents, improving their accessibility, service conditions, and quality.
At the beginning of summer, outpatient mental health care services for children and adolescents provided at the Šeškinė polyclinic were moved to new premises in the “Pikas” shopping building. A day hospital for early rehabilitation of children with developmental disorders was also established here.
In the rapidly growing Pilaitė district, these services are planned to be expanded by reconstructing the building of the Pilaitė branch of the Karoliniškės polyclinic. A public procurement for construction works is currently underway.
