The first arson was recorded by KRATC on August 13 – a semi-underground container for mixed municipal waste was burned near the house at Paryžiaus Komunos St. 6.

On the same day, a report was received from waste collectors about an attempted arson of an above-ground container near the house at Taikos Ave. 35A. And on August 17, the waste collection company reported that at the same address – Taikos Ave. 35A – three mixed municipal waste collection containers had already been burned.

Since both burned container locations are close to each other, it is assumed that the arsons may have been committed by the same individuals.

“The containers were completely destroyed. The price of one container set is about 15,000 euros, in addition, there will be costs for site cleaning and construction work. The damage is not only financial – burning plastic and garbage cause dangerous air pollution, which poisons the residents of the surrounding neighborhoods. We are grateful to the residents who called the firefighters, but again we ask all Klaipėda residents for help – maybe someone saw, photographed, or has video recordings from nearby buildings that could help identify the culprits. We would kindly ask to send such material to us or the police,” invited Tomas Danisevičius, director of the Klaipėda Regional Waste Management Center.
