„The Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Belarus was informed about the detention of a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania,“ the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a comment provided to BNS on Monday.

It noted that, respecting individuals’ privacy, it cannot provide information about specific persons or the circumstances of the incident without their consent.

„The Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again strongly recommends citizens of the Republic of Lithuania not to travel to the Republic of Belarus, and those currently there to leave immediately,“ the Ministry emphasized.

„We also remind that in countries with the highest risk level according to travel recommendations, consular assistance may be provided only to a very limited extent or not at all,“ the Ministry added.

The independent Belarusian news portal „Nasha Niva“ reported on Sunday that 27-year-old D. Stanulevičius was sentenced for inciting extremism after officials detained him at the border.
