Perhaps the most upset about such ambitions was the Gargždai “Banga” football club, to which the district municipality had promised a covered football training hall.
However, in the end, B. Markauskas gave in.
On Wednesday, he posted a message on Facebook stating that the multifunctional arena project will not be submitted.
“We will not submit an application for a new multifunctional arena – I will propose to remove the issue from the agenda.

I know that part of the community will welcome this decision, but I sincerely regret that the attempt to obtain state funding for the arena was abandoned, whose main goal was to provide space for football players in winter, and multifunctionality was an opportunity to gain additional points. We had the opportunity to solve the football problem – the lack of places for training in winter – with state funding in about 3 years, and at the same time create space for new sports, community gatherings. I would like to point out that we could only submit an application for projects that are already prepared and have a building permit.
Almost 80 thousand people live in the Klaipėda district, and there is space here for all sports. There is no need to create artificial confrontations, no need for graffiti and stickers in the city to say that there is only room here for one sport. We are well known for football, basketball, volleyball, futsal, equestrian sports, we train excellent weightlifters, built a swimming pool, so maybe we will have wonderful swimmers too. There should be room for everyone.
So the lesson is this – sometimes someone should put ambitions aside and really try to create something that would benefit both football and the entire district community,” wrote B. Markauskas.
