Admission to universities begins on June 1

„I invite applicants to choose the studies whose specialists our country needs the most: pedagogy, nursing, and officer training studies – this year more state-funded places are planned in these fields. And applicants from socially vulnerable groups, as in previous years, can apply to higher education institutions through the second competitive round. It is important that no young person’s dreams are hindered by social or financial circumstances,“ says the Minister of Education, Science and Sports Raminta Popovienė.

This year, 85 more state-funded places are allocated for nursing studies at universities and colleges, with a total of 620 students planned to be admitted to these studies.

For pedagogy studies, 800 first-year students are planned to be admitted to state-funded places at universities and colleges. Another 400 state-funded places are allocated for pedagogical professional studies, which can be chosen by those who already have higher education qualifications.

More pedagogy specializations with targeted scholarships available upon admission

This year, there are not only more state-funded places in pedagogy study programs but also more priority pedagogy specializations whose students can apply for scholarships worth several hundred euros. Scholarships will be available to students of three more specializations: English and Spanish languages and social pedagogy.

As before, those admitted to other priority pedagogy specializations will also have the opportunity to receive scholarships: mathematics, Lithuanian language and literature, French and German languages, physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, IT, special pedagogy, and primary education.

Those admitted to state-funded priority pedagogy study specializations for bachelor’s or parallel studies will be able to apply for scholarships of 481 EUR per month.

Priority specialization students in pedagogical professional studies and final-year bachelor’s or parallel studies will be able to receive scholarships of 814 EUR per month. This support is intended for those who sign a contract with a municipality or school and commit to working there for at least 3 years within a 5-year period after graduation, for no less than 0.7 full-time equivalent.

Some applicants will be able to use the second competitive round

Young people from socially vulnerable backgrounds applying to higher education institutions can use the second competitive round. About 1.3 thousand state-funded study places are allocated for this round.

The second competitive round is intended for those who meet at least one of the conditions: come from very low-income families, are orphans not older than 25 years whose both parents (or the only parent) are deceased, are wards, have a participation level of 45% or less, or have severe or moderate disability.

Applicants with at least 24 months of practical experience can also apply if they are enrolling in bachelor’s or integrated studies. Practical experience includes work under an employment contract in the last 3 years, voluntary work under a volunteer agreement, completed or credited military service.

Applicants in the second competitive round must meet the same academic preparation requirements as other applicants.

Admission requirements similar to last year

As in previous years, applicants to higher education institutions this year must have passed at least three state maturity exams (VBE): Lithuanian language and literature, mathematics, and one exam freely chosen by the applicant.

An exception applies to applicants to arts studies and those who have completed short-cycle studies; they need only two VBEs: arts applicants do not need mathematics, and those who have completed short-cycle studies do not need a chosen exam.

The arithmetic average of the three (or two for arts applicants or after short studies) VBE scores must be at least the basic learning achievement level (50 points) if applying to university studies, and at least satisfactory (41 points) if applying to college studies.

All applicants will also need to achieve the minimum admission competitive score set by the higher education institutions themselves.

Admission applications are submitted through the LABA BPO system until July 23 at 12:00. The results of this stage will be announced by July 30 at 15:00. Those admitted will be able to sign study contracts from July 30 at 16:00 until August 1 at 15:00.

From August 4 to 7 at 12:00, applicants can submit applications to participate in the first stage of additional admission. Contracts can be signed from August 11 at 14:00 until August 13 at 12:00. During the second stage of additional admission, applicants can submit applications from August 14 to 17. Contracts can be signed from August 20 at 14:00 until August 21 at 16:00.
