The search for the suspect was immediately started. Officers from the Lithuanian Police Anti-Terrorist Operations Unit “Aras” were also called to the scene, and the State Border Guard Service officers were informed about the incident.
Suspect detained in Utena
The search ended at about 7:40 a.m. in Utena. At the intersection of Pramonės and J. Basanavičius streets, officers of the Utena County Police stopped a car in which the suspect, born in 1976, was found.
The 50-year-old man was detained.
“No weapon was found near the man. He was intoxicated – 1.89 per mille. He was detained in the car,” said Utena police spokeswoman Asta Šuminienė.
The police spokeswoman could not specify the relationship between the victim and the killer.
A pre-trial investigation for murder has been initiated regarding the incident.
The prosecutor of the Criminal Prosecution Division of the Panevėžys District Prosecutor’s Office, who is leading the pre-trial investigation, intends to apply to the court on Friday, requesting the strictest preventive measure for the suspect – detention.
Police and other service officers continue to work at the scene, conducting initial procedural actions and clarifying the circumstances of the crime.
