„A real nuisance. I brought a boat from the United States (USA). There are no such boats in Lithuania. When I converted the engine from petrol to electric, I was told that there are no such boats here. It’s a cool thing, I enjoyed it last summer, and I’ve been out on it this year too,” Darius Zubrus, who played in the NHL from 1996-2016, told 15min.

The interviewee stated that on the last weekend of May this year, he had gone to Switzerland for a hockey congress. He returned to his homestead, located on Lake Skaistis in Trakai district, on June 2nd.
It was then that he noticed the motorized vehicle was no longer moored to the shore.

The former hockey player stated that the vehicle is worth about 25 thousand euros and was purchased about 6-7 years ago in the USA.
„The boat was in the water, chained to the pier. There were cameras, but the thieves were prepared. The cameras were painted over, and the chain was cut. They took the boat and sailed it elsewhere.
Everything was planned. The thieves probably knew I wouldn’t be there. I understand they were preparing,” D. Zubrus said about the sequence of events.
Since the thieves disabled the cameras, the only option is to rely on live witnesses – neighbors. However, there’s little luck here too – the closest people did not see the incident.

„The robbers knew where to go and how to do everything as safely as possible,” D. Zubrus told the 15min editorial office.
Now this incident has been handed over to the police for investigation, but officials also confirmed that such cases are extremely rare in Lithuania.
„I asked the investigators if this happens often, and they said no. They had not seen such a case before. They prepared, they organized. This is an organized operation,” D. Zubrus commented.
Although the resident of Elektrėnai stated during the conversation that the boat is a material object, he emphasized that it is extremely important for robberies to decrease in Lithuania. That is the most important thing.

„The boat is a material object, there will be other boats. I would like it to be found, I liked it. I would like bad people to be punished and Lithuania to be cleaner,” D. Zubrus emphasized.
Residents who have information about the stolen boat or persons possibly related to the theft are asked to immediately report it to the Chief Investigator Jonas Banuškevičius of the Trakai District Police Commissariat of the Vilnius County Chief Police Commissariat, tel. no. +370 700 65425, email jonas.banuskevicius@policija.lt or call the emergency services tel. No. 112.
