Officials are investigating a possible link to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The Liberian-flagged “Gas Lisbon” was sailing in the Black Sea towards a Ukrainian port when it was struck late Monday about 20 nautical miles off the Romanian coast, Romanian President Nicusoras Dan said on Tuesday.

Romanian officials evacuated the entire 17-member crew of the ship, including three injured sailors. According to the Romanian Department for Emergency Situations, two of the injured suffered burns to about 10-15% of their bodies, while the third sustained multiple injuries.

Romanian news portal “news.ro” reported on Thursday that one of the injured sailors, a 45-year-old Filipino citizen, had died.
