This bird species is found in the western and southern parts of Europe, Northwest Africa, Turkey, Kazakhstan. The closest breeding sites to Lithuania are found in the Netherlands and Romania. It is said that the little tern is easier to hear than to see. The bird’s song is distinctive.

In May, 71 species of birds were ringed at the Ventė Ornithological Station. The majority were black-headed gulls, common starlings, and firecrests.
