A plane flying from Tallinn turned through Russian airspace: a passenger seeing this called the flight attendants

The report states that the aircraft changed its usual route and flew over the Kaliningrad region.

One passenger claimed to have noticed the route change on a flight tracking app and contacted the flight attendants. After consulting with the pilots, the passenger was informed that the flight over the Kaliningrad region was a conscious decision by the crew, as they considered this route to be the most optimal.

Lennuliiklusteeninduse AS, the company responsible for air traffic control in Estonia, stated that according to the approved flight plan, the route was supposed to go through Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria.

Although Turkish Airlines has the right to use Russian airspace, data from the Flightradar website shows that a route through Russia for flights between Tallinn and Istanbul is not common.
