A new ban has come into effect in Europe: thousands in fines at stake

As reported by “Verslo žinios”, the ban on destroying textile products is introduced according to the 2024 EU Sustainable Products Ecodesign Requirements Regulation EU 2024/1781.

This year the ban applies only to large companies, those that meet 2 out of 3 criteria: have 250 or more employees, annual revenue exceeds 50 million EUR, and balance sheet assets value – 43 million EUR.

For medium-sized companies, the regulation provisions will start to apply from 2030, for small businesses there are no deadlines yet.

As the portal reports, economic operators, service providers, and electronic marketplace service providers would be fined from 1,000 to 5,000 EUR for violations of the established requirements, and for non-compliance with the market surveillance authority’s decision – from 2,000 to 10,000 EUR.
