What does the scissors icon mean on iPhone?
In fact, the mysterious symbol is an emoji that the user can assign to a selected Focus mode.
The Focus feature allows temporarily changing the iPhone’s behavior according to a specific situation. For example, you can create separate modes for work, sleep, personal time, workouts, or relaxation.
Apple explains that Focus helps reduce distractions and set certain boundaries.
When a selected mode is enabled, the iPhone can mute some notifications or allow only those notifications that match the specific situation. You can also set a separate home screen page with the necessary apps and widgets.

The icon can be chosen by the user
The most interesting thing is that the scissors are not a secret or standard iPhone feature. The user chooses this symbol for their Focus mode.
For example, when creating a mode for crafts or haircuts, you can choose the scissors emoji. When such a mode is enabled, the scissors symbol will appear at the top of the phone screen.
To create your own mode, you need to open Settings → Focus, and then press “+” in the upper right corner.
Then you can specify the mode name, choose its color and emoji, and set rules – which notifications to allow and when this mode should be activated.
