We remind you that a couple of weeks ago, a spectator’s death could not be avoided at the Nemunas Ring when a car flew off the track during a BaTCC race.
Due to this incident, police officers initiated a clarification of circumstances regarding serious health impairment due to negligence, according to Article 137, Part 1 of the LR Criminal Code.
On the mentioned day, July 16, “Gas Therapy” took place at the Nemunas Ring. These are training-type rides (English: “track day”), in which both amateurs and professionals can participate. Linas Navickas, head of “Navas Racing Club”, cannot say why the accident happened. It is obvious that the deceased motorcyclist was wearing mandatory gear and fell in the slowest corner of the track (Šakiai exit). More than one motorcyclist has fallen at this spot, but accidents have been avoided.
Not all interviewed motorsport representatives agreed to speak identifying themselves. Those who spoke anonymously noted several things: the accident was not very complex, as the motorcycle suffered relatively little damage. The speed was also reduced by the fact that the motorcyclist slid for some time. The motorcyclist laid down the “razor” (bike), but apparently, the front wheel slipped.
Therefore, it is likely that circumstances unfortunately conspired, with the impact hitting a vitally sensitive part of the body. Should the question of the Nemunas Ring’s safety be raised again here?

The event organizer Linas Navickas himself says that the Nemunas Ring becomes safer every year, with the most dangerous places being covered. He also talks about a coincidence of circumstances:
“A week ago, at MOTO GP, in one of the safest tracks in Brno, two motorcyclists died after colliding at the start. Unfortunately, this sometimes happens to us, and it is very painful. Here, on the safest track in the world, one motorcycle broke down, and another crashed into it. How to avoid such accidents? In technical sports, it is almost impossible to avoid risks.
And what happened in Kačerginė – I cannot answer that question myself. I only know that when a motorcyclist rides, the motorcycle is his best friend. However, in the event of a fall, it becomes an enemy – it must be gotten rid of as quickly as possible, pushed away from oneself. Because if there is contact with the motorcycle itself, it is difficult to avoid injuries.”

Giedrė Leskauskienė, President of the Lithuanian Motorcycle Sport Federation, says that in this case, the question of the Nemunas Ring’s safety should not be raised. In her opinion, the motorcyclist died not because the track or equipment was unsafe.
“This is an unfortunate accident. He fell in the slowest corner. So speed is not the main reason,” commented G. Leskauskienė.
