After successfully delivering the donor organ to Vilnius, at about 19:00 the helicopter returned to Kaunas, where the crew continued their watch.

Transporting donor organs is one of the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ peacetime tasks. The Lithuanian Armed Forces Military Air Forces transport donor organs under a cooperation agreement with the National Transplant Bureau.

The bureau reported that 315 patients are waiting for organ transplant operations: 123 for kidneys, 70 for hearts, 3 for lungs, 4 for heart-lung complexes, 6 for pancreas-kidney complexes, 109 for livers.

460 patients are waiting for tissue and cell transplants: 195 for corneas and 265 for hematopoietic stem cells. Among them are 39 children.
