About the bear’s visit to social networks on Thursday reported Edvardas Baleišis, a member of the Elektrėnai municipality council. He shared a video showing how on August 22, during a storm, the bear visits an apiary in Sukrė forest, between the village of Bekštoniai and Kazokiškės.

According to E. Baleišis, the animal destroyed two beehives. Although the video shows that the bear behaves cautiously, bee stings did not stop it – the animal took five frames with honey from one hive.
This is not the first time this bear has targeted human apiaries. About the damage it caused a few days ago also wrote Kaišiadoriečiams.lt.
Nothing left of two bee colonies
The owner of one ravaged apiary, Jūratė, said that her losses after the bear’s visit are painful. Nothing was left of two bee colonies. The bees had already been fed syrup intended for winter, but the animal overturned the hives and poured sticky liquid on the remaining live bees.
In another hive, the bear feasted on honey – it ate five frames, and after its visit, only a few bees remained there.
According to Jūratė, the bear does not come to the apiary by chance – it seems to already know which hives are worth choosing. The beekeeper said that the animal always targets the corner hives.
The woman fears that the story may not end there. If the bear returns, it may try again to get to the remaining apiary. However, removing the hives would not necessarily solve the problem – then, according to the beekeeper, the animal could start overturning other nearby hives.
The bear has already visited several apiaries
Another apiary was damaged in the village of Dainava. There the bear visited two nights in a row, and not a single healthy frame was left in the hive. As Kaišiadoriečiams.lt wrote, the animal has already been active in that apiary three times in total.
According to E. Baleišis, about a month ago the bear also stopped by an apiary in Daučiuliškės, Vievio eldership. So it seems the animal has already found places where it can easily find food.
Local residents say that the bear has a kind of route in this region – it appears in the Kazokiškės area, disappears for a few days, and then returns to the forests of the Kaišiadorys district.
Meanwhile, residents are urged to remain vigilant and not to approach the bear if spotted.
