Nausėda welcomes the decision to change the coalition: it was a long-matured decision

“I congratulate the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party on its decision to change the composition of the coalition. This is a long-matured decision,” the president said. The head of state’s comment was conveyed to BNS by his advisor Frederikas Jansonas.

“Now I hope that the government’s reboot will not take too long and will allow us to focus on the problems that need to be solved today, not tomorrow or the day after. I am ready to cooperate constructively with the new ruling majority,” said G. Nausėda.

BNS wrote that on Saturday, the LSDP decided to remove “Nemuno aušra” from the ruling coalition and invite the Democratic Union “Vardan Lietuvos” to negotiations instead.

According to G. Nausėda, the preconditions for such a decision by the Social Democrats were not only the recent rhetoric of “aušriečiai” leader Remigijus Žemaitaitis, doubts about the circumstances of this party’s financing, but also an unconstructive stance in adopting key laws for Lithuania’s security.

“The parties forming the ruling coalition may have different views on many public life issues, but when nothing unites them, including opinions on fundamental domestic and foreign policy issues of the state, it becomes a problem,” said the head of state.

As the coalition changes, the composition of the Government should also change.

“Nemuno aušra” has delegated the ministers of agriculture and environment to the Cabinet of Ministers, and LSDP leader Mindaugas Sinkevičius confirmed that some of their delegated ministers will also change.

News portals “Delfi” and “Lrytas” wrote that M. Sinkevičius has informed the current Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė about his intention to take her position. Politicians do not publicly confirm this.
