„The next step is the formal land transfer-acceptance process with the National Land Service. Then we will start planning work: we will assess what tasks and procedures are needed and plan the budget. We would like to start the first works on the territory in the middle of next year,“ the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union stated in a comment provided to BNS this week.

BNS reported that the Government decided this week to transfer a 51.97-hectare state land plot in Druckūnai village, Varėna district, to the Riflemen’s Union. It is currently managed under trust by the National Land Service and used by the Alytus Vocational Training Center.
The territory is intended to be used for training drone operators, developing drone capabilities and counter-drone systems. It would also be possible to set up a long-range shooting range up to 800 meters and establish the LŠS Training and Non-Kinetic Operations Center’s drone competence center there.
The plot is currently designated for agricultural use, so it is planned to initiate an amendment or adjustment to the Varėna district general plan.

As BNS wrote, earlier the Government had planned to transfer a 30.61-hectare plot in Ąžuolai village, Balbieriškis eldership, Prienai district, to the Riflemen’s Union.
However, this decision was abandoned because it was decided that the Ukrainian Dnipro Electromechanical Plant (DEMZ) would build an ammunition assembly workshop there.
The Riflemen’s Union is a voluntary militarized civic organization currently uniting nearly 20,000 members.
