Gytis Volkavičius published a video on Saturday in which he announced that he had made an important decision.
“Today, driving from Vilnius to Kaunas, I made the decision to establish the third muftiate,” G. Volkavičius announced.
The muftiate is an Islamic religious institution. Gytis explained how the one he establishes will be different.
“In this muftiate, there will be no threats to Lithuania. It will promote birth rates, a multitude of wives – I have already set an example for Lithuania with three wives. Our muftiate will encourage having as many wives and children as possible, and then you will have more happiness.
Another thing, our muftiate will allow a bit more freedom for women.
When there is strict policy and policy based on Islam, laws are created according to Islam, according to the Quran, women automatically have fewer rights, especially in those countries where religion is intertwined with politics.

This is Lithuania, this is not an Islamic country. Especially since my wives are Christians, I would lose them sooner than cover them with a hijab. Michelle or Novelyn would never agree in their lives. And since they are Christians, I cannot limit their freedoms, they have their choice. If they were Muslim women, then it would be a different story. And if I ever found a true Muslim woman, maybe then I would behave a little differently,” G. Volkavičius explained.
Gytis emphasized that this is good news for all of Lithuania.
“The good news is that there will be more rights for women and officially we will not occupy any one mosque, we will not do like the second muftiate – allegedly accusing them of occupying a mosque and pushing the Tatars out of there.
The division among Muslims of ‘here are the bad ones, and here are the good ones’ I really did not like. My muftiate will not occupy any mosques. If we want – we go, pray, that’s it. I pray in London, have been to Kaunas several times, we go for tea near the mosque, how nice, it’s good to be there.
So here is the good news for all of Kaunas, all of Lithuania – the third muftiate is established by me,” G. Volkavičius said.
