The incident turned into a criminal case, which, to protect the interests of the minor victim, began to be heard behind closed court doors this week.

According to the case materials, during a music lesson at Kaunas Vaišvydava school, teacher R. Lukoševičiūtė grabbed a student by the neck in front of minor students and pulled him out of the classroom.

Such actions by the teacher were allegedly caused by swear words coming from the student’s lips – it is claimed that a conflict arose between this child and another student in the class, and later he also swore at the teacher herself.

Taking him by the hand, the teacher dragged the misbehaving student through the corridor to the school administration.

All this was treated as violence against a minor. Upon learning about the incident, the child’s mother contacted the police.

The teacher denies having used violence against the student.

Asking – did the teacher really use violence?

The widely publicized story also drew a response from the well-known teacher, historian, and author Algis Bitautas. He raised questions on Facebook about whether the teacher really used violence. And if so – when any teacher could find themselves in her place.

“The situation seems simple. During a combined lesson, a primary school student offers the teacher to f*** him. The teacher takes the child by the hand and leads him to the principal.

And then the question arises: did the teacher use violence?

We can talk a lot about helplines, emotional well-being, a safe environment, and children’s rights. And all of that is important. But who really protects the teacher today from absurd accusations?

Since when has disciplining a child become violence?

A teacher can be cursed at, sent away, humiliated. But as soon as a teacher reacts more strictly – roles quickly reverse: now he has to explain himself,” wrote A. Bitautas.

He assures that he is not talking about real violence, which allegedly “has no place and cannot have a place” in schools. Here he is talking about boundaries and “the basic right of a teacher to stop inappropriate behavior and demand respect.”

The situation seems simple. During a combined lesson, a primary school student offers the teacher to f*** him. The teacher takes the child by the hand and leads him to the principal. And then the question arises: did the teacher use violence?

“If we start to evaluate every stricter action of a teacher as possible ‘violence,’ soon a teacher will have to think not about the class but about who will be accused afterwards before disciplining a child.

And then the question is no longer about just one teacher.

Colleague, when will you find yourself in her place?” – the teacher asked rhetorically.

President Gitanas Nausėda has also spoken about the fact that teachers in Lithuanian schools often lack proper attention. On the occasion of September 1, during a visit to the Maišiagala Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Gymnasium in Vilnius district, he said that he himself had not done everything in this area.

“I would like to wish you, dear teachers, strength, never to lose optimism, never to give up, even though sometimes you may miss attention from the government, from those around you,” said the president,
