The magic of numbers and summer weekends: the most popular wedding dates of this year revealed

„Every year, most couples in the country get married on summer weekends, and the absolute leaders for couples choosing a date for their life celebration are August weekends. Of course, a significant number of newlyweds want to give even more meaning to this special date and coordinate the wedding date according to a certain memorable number combination. And June 2026 was especially favorable for numerology enthusiasts,“ says Janeita Muliuolė, Head of the Data Solutions Department at the Registry Center.

According to the data of the Registration and Residence Declaration Information System (MGVDIS) managed by the Registry Center, which combines data from various national registration offices, the most popular wedding dates this year were weekends of the three summer months – June, July, and August. However, one Saturday in September also made it into the top ten.

According to the Registry Center, the most popular marriage date this year was August 8th, Saturday – on this day, as many as 466 couples exchanged vows of eternal love. In comparison, last year the most popular wedding date was August 23rd, when 318 couples got married.

„The storm that swept through Lithuania at the end of August this year apparently did not alter the plans of the newlyweds – on August 22nd, as many as 367 couples got married,“ says J. Muliuolė.

Unlike last year, 2026 was favorable for newlyweds who believe in the magic of numbers. On June 26th and 6th of this year, 430 and 413 couples respectively exchanged rings. Nearly 300 newlyweds got married on June 20th.

For several years now, there has been a trend that September weekends are becoming increasingly popular for weddings. For example, this year on September 5th, as many as 272 newlywed couples exchanged marriage vows.

In total, 11.7 thousand marriages have already been registered in MGVDIS this year. Of these, just over one-fifth were conducted in a church, while the majority were elsewhere. The vast majority of marriages were conducted in Lithuania, but about 600 marriages registered in Lithuania were conducted abroad.
