“Due to new strikes by the Russian Federation carried out by air attack means against targets in central Ukraine, military aviation is operating preventively in Polish airspace,” the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command stated in a report published on Thursday at 18:54.
“According to the applicable procedures, the Armed Forces Operational Command, through the Air Operations Center – Air Component Command, activated the necessary forces and means under its control. Ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems reached a state of readiness,” the military report said.
“These actions are preventive in nature and intended to ensure the safety and protection of Polish airspace, especially in the eastern part of the country. The Armed Forces Operational Command is monitoring the current situation, and the forces and means under its command are ready to respond immediately,” the report concluded.
At 21:40, the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command reported that military aviation operations in Polish airspace, conducted to ensure security against air attack means from the Russian Federation striking targets in Ukraine, have ended.
Ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have returned to normal operating mode.
Earlier on Thursday, a threat was declared in two Polish voivodeships
This is the second time today that the military has scrambled fighters due to a threat on the Ukrainian side near the border.

Earlier, in the Lublin and Subcarpathian voivodeships, danger sirens were activated due to a threat arising from the Russian attack on Ukraine. The threat was canceled around 12:50.
“Since it was a jet drone rapidly approaching the Polish border, fighters were scrambled,” explained Lieutenant Colonel Jacek Goryszewski, spokesperson for the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported that “very close to the Polish border, near Ukraine’s Yahodyn, a gas station was probably attacked, and a very strong explosion was heard.”
Poland’s Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk said in the Sejm that the military was prepared to shoot down possible objects if there was a threat that they would enter Polish airspace.
“I know that residents of the Lublin and Subcarpathian regions receive such information almost every day now, but this is because the Russian Federation’s strike strategy has completely changed. It is no longer an attack once every week or two, carried out at night. Now Ukraine is constantly forced to maintain combat readiness, which also affects us,” said C. Tomczyk.
