The meeting is scheduled to present the results of a public opinion survey, the position of public leaders and experts on universal conscription, a draft model of universal defense, reports from the Lithuanian Armed Forces and former Finnish Armed Forces commander General Timo Kivinen.

The council will also discuss the role of business in universal conscription and will adopt a protocol decision on the implementation of universal conscription.
After the meeting, a solemn signing ceremony of universal defense initiatives will take place. During it, nearly 60 organizations representing more than 300,000 residents will sign the organizations’ commitment charter to universal defense and the universal employers’ initiative.
As BNS wrote, a survey commissioned by the “Universal Defense” association showed that nearly 80% of Lithuanian residents supported the introduction of universal conscription in the country, with priority given to conscription of men.
Also, more than half would like universal conscription to be introduced sooner than by 2030.
The commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, General Raimundas Vaikšnoras, has previously said that currently there are enough conscripted men to meet the needs of the army.
Meanwhile, the Minister of National Defense, Robertas Kaunas, stated that Lithuania is moving towards the introduction of universal conscription, but first it needs to be prepared properly.
Universal conscription has not yet been introduced in Lithuania.
