The new Redmi Note 17 Pro Max – titanium body and battery that lasts three days

In Lithuania, from September 17, it is possible to purchase four models of this series – the Redmi Note 17, Redmi Note 17 5G, Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, and Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G, which I have tested for just over a week and can confidently say – you can forget about daily smartphone charging. Depending on your usage habits, this mid-range phone will last at least three days.

The Redmi Note 17 series was created with a single goal – to please everyone who does not need a flagship model but wants a durable smartphone with a long-lasting battery. Xiaomi can boast that the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G and Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G became the first smartphones on the market to receive the TÜV SÜD 5-star Titan Quality certificate.

Main advantages and differences of the Redmi Note 17 series models

The base Redmi Note 17 has a 6.99-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 7,700 mAh battery that charges at 45 W speed. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 processor with 6 GB of RAM and either 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage. This model also has an IP65 rating: protection against dust and water (resistance to low-pressure water jets). A weaker processor, but a long-lasting battery and an attractive price.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro is much more serious. It has a slightly smaller 6.83-inch 1.5K resolution AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection and an IP68 certification, which ensures protection against dust and water (can be submerged up to 1.5 m for up to 30 minutes). Best of all, this smartphone is already protected against drops from three meters. The processor is also more powerful – Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage. The Redmi Note 17 Pro has an 8,340 mAh battery with 67 W fast charging.

And of course, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, which is the most powerful model in the series with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 processor, identical RAM and internal storage, but with a 9,210 mAh battery. To date, this smartphone has no competitors – it is the longest-lasting smartphone available in Lithuania. It is also good that with 100 W fast charging, it takes only an hour to fully charge a depleted smartphone. After testing this phone for just over a week using the camera, social networks, and watching videos on the YouTube platform, it lasted me even a week.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max also stands out with a titanium body with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 screen protection, dust and water resistance (IP68), and resistance to accidental drops from three meters.

A unique feature is that the Redmi Note 17 Pro has reverse wired charging at 22.5 W, and the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max even 27 W. It can be used as an external battery to charge other smartphones.

It is worth mentioning that the cheapest Redmi Note 17 comes with 4 GB of RAM, while the Redmi Note 17 5G and Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G smartphones have 6 GB of RAM. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G is available with 8 GB of RAM, but all models have the Memory Extension feature, which allows expanding the RAM from 6 GB to 16 GB and thus improves smartphone performance.

50 MP camera for everyday moments

Although all Redmi Note 17 series smartphones have 50 MP main cameras, the sensor sizes and apertures differ slightly. The Note 17 and Note 17 Pro have a 50 MP f/1.8 aperture 26 mm main camera (1/2.76″ sensor size), while the Note 17 Pro Max has a 50 MP 26 mm camera but with an f/1.5 aperture and a 1/1.95-inch sensor size. Better detail in low light and greater background blur during the day.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro and Redmi Note 17 Pro Max also have an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera on the back. The photo quality during the day will be good, but the result is somewhat poorer in low light conditions.

The Redmi Note 17 and Redmi Note 17 Pro have a 16 MP front camera, and both models can only record in Full HD resolution. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max smartphone has a 32 MP front camera that can record even in 4K resolution at up to 30 frames per second. Not all mid-range models allow this. Also, last year’s Redmi Note 15 Pro+ model can only record in Full HD with the front camera.

After testing the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max model, I was definitely satisfied with the result. I cannot compare it to flagships, but the quality did not disappoint. The only downside is the lack of a telephoto camera, but two-times zoom can be used for portraits or other objects. The main rear camera allows recording in 4K resolution at up to 30 frames per second, but the ultra-wide-angle camera only records in Full HD resolution.
