“2026 promises to be another record year. We are close to the goal that the share allocated to security and defense will exceed 5% of our entire portfolio. That would amount to more than 5 billion euros. About 30% of this funding should go to the eastern flank of Europe – last year this share was 25%,” she added.
The EIB head emphasized that the bank, increasingly contributing to Lithuania’s defense, also supports the country’s economy.
“We allocate 100 billion euros in financing to Europe and the world, but Lithuania is a great success story, and I am very proud that the European Investment Bank plays such an important role in contributing to this success – supporting Lithuania’s economy and increasingly contributing to Lithuania’s defense,” said the EIB president.

“Lithuania’s defense is also Europe’s defense, so it is important that we focus our investments here, on the eastern flank,” she added.
BNS wrote that EIB group financing in Lithuania grew by 29% last year to 577 million euros.
The EIB lent for the Rudninkai military town, “Ignitis Group” wind parks, Klaipėda port projects, construction of Vilnius schools and kindergartens, purchase of capital city buses, and other projects.
