As early as August 28, it was reported that the Russian Ministry of Defense awarded A. Grunis the highest state award – the Russian Hero “Golden Star”. He received this award “for courage and heroism shown in the performance of military duty.”
As the news portal “Unian” writes, it is known that the unit of the eliminated general fought against Ukrainian forces in the city of Kostiantynivka, which Russia has been trying to capture for almost a year. Although in the summer, A. Grunis himself reported to V. Putin about the alleged complete occupation of the city.

Ukrainian journalist Denys Kazansky writes that a few days ago Russian propagandist Anastasia Kashevarova hinted that A. Grunis’s location was betrayed by his own people, and his headquarters was attacked after receiving the information.

“Interestingly, Grunis’s predecessor – former commander of the 4th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade Vyacheslav Makarov – was also eliminated by a precise strike on the headquarters in 2024,” the journalist recalled.
It is noted that the general, who graduated from the War School in Kazan, fought in the wars in Chechnya and Georgia.
In 2021, A. Grunis retired to the reserve but later decided to return to join the fight against Ukraine. The forces under his command fought for the capture of Bakhmut, Chasiv Yar, and Kostiantynivka.
