From October 14-19, the stage of the Old Theatre in Vilnius will bring together world-class jazz figures – here will perform American electroacoustic music creator, trumpeter, multimedia artist Rob Mazurek, legendary percussionist Hamid Drake, prominent Norwegian bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, unique South African jazz pianist Ndudzo Makhathini, and many other stage visionaries.

On October 14, the festival will begin with Dainius Pulauskas’s “fusion” group (DPG), celebrating 30 years of creative activity this year. Thirty springs have passed since their debut in March 1996 at the Birštonas Jazz Festival. Thus – “Thirty springs” – is the title of the newest, 12th album of the group, which the musicians will present at the “Vilnius Jazz” festival on the occasion of the anniversary – the group leader and composer D. Pulauskas, trumpeter Valerijus Ramoška, saxophonists Liutauras Janušaitis and Tomas Botyrius, bassist Domas Aleksa, drummer Domantas Razmus, and percussionist Arkadijus Gotesmanas.
D. Pulauskas’s “fusion” group is one of the most well-known Lithuanian jazz ensembles abroad. As early as 2004, he was awarded the Lithuanian Institute’s “LT Identity” award for popularizing Lithuanian jazz worldwide. Today, the group has performed at over 170 festivals on four continents.
DPG was the first from Lithuania to enter the stages of Malaysia, Indonesia, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, South Korea, and appeared at the most important festivals in India. The group received applause from audiences at prestigious jazz festivals in Ottawa, London, Tokyo, and Washington.
On all stages, exclusively compositions by the group leader D. Pulauskas were performed. The influential jazz portal “Allaboutjazz.com” recognized him as one of the most interesting “fusion” composers in European jazz.

The maestro’s work is immortalized in more than 20 author albums, two author DVDs, and numerous jazz compilations. This artist’s creative palette ranges from solo to symphonic jazz and big band compositions. He creates music for large and chamber ensembles, theater and films, song festivals, and arranges for television projects. Besides DPG, the keyboardist performs with his acoustic quintet and trio and is a member of the “Baltic Jazz Trio.”
All DPG musicians are versatile creators. They collaborate with the most prominent Lithuanian jazz and improvisational music personalities, participate in various music projects of different directions, and create original programs.
On the “Vilnius Jazz” stage, the group will perform dynamic, contrasting compositions specially created by D. Pulauskas for the album “Thirty springs,” demonstrating the author’s loyalty to the “fusion” style, colorful combinations of electronic and acoustic timbres, whose distinctive sound is loved not only by Lithuanian but also by jazz audiences worldwide.
The concerts of the 39th international festival “Vilnius Jazz” will take place from October 15-19 at the Old Theatre in Vilnius. The project is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and the Vilnius City Municipality. Tickets are sold by Bilietai.lt
