On September 10, 2026, officers of the Department of Wildlife Protection, while conducting hunting control in the Biržai district, checked a vehicle carrying hunters and weapons. It was found that the individuals had consumed alcohol.

Police officers were immediately called to the scene to determine the sobriety of the individuals.
There were four people in the vehicle who had weapons. One of the weapons was carried without a case. All four individuals were found to have alcohol in their system: one had less than 0.4 per mille, the others had more than 0.4 per mille. The highest detected blood alcohol content was 1.78 per mille. One of these individuals was a DWP officer.
While investigating the circumstances of the incident, it was found that two more DWP officers participated in the hunting that day. One of them had less than 0.4 per mille alcohol, the other had 0.51 per mille.
An investigation has been launched by the police regarding violations related to the transportation of weapons by intoxicated hunters. The DWP has also initiated investigations into possible hunting violations and an internal investigation into the actions of the DWP officers involved in the incident.
