One of the NBA executives confirmed that the new league will start in October 2027.
This will be a new tournament, not replacing the currently existing FIBA Champions League.

“We believe that our league will expand and elevate European basketball,” said M. Tatum. “For example, the upcoming Champions League winner will enter our top league.”
This means that if Vilnius “Rytas” repeats this year’s success, they could compete in the “NBA Europe” tournament in the fall of 2027.
Its model remains as previously presented – 12 clubs with guaranteed spots and 4 more based on sporting merit.

“Our goal is long-term. The majority of franchise fees will ultimately go to the teams themselves and European basketball. That money will not be taken to the USA. About 85–90% will remain in Europe,” noted M. Tatum.
He also stated that the “NBA Europe” project “remains in active discussions with the EuroLeague,” but they are ready to move forward even without EuroLeague clubs.
