The State Progress Council is an advisory institution with the status of a Government commission on the issues of state future planning and its progress.
Its goal is to unite the forces of state institutions and agencies as well as society to analyze, model, design the future development of the state and society, to spread ideas of state progress, and to provide proposals related to these issues to the Government and the Seimas.
The council must monitor the implementation of the progress strategy “Lithuania 2050”, evaluate the progress achieved, contribute to other strategic-level planning documents, encourage public discussions about the country’s and society’s future, directions of progress, and ways to implement them.
The mentioned council is chaired by the Prime Minister. It consists of more than fifty members. Representatives of parliamentary factions and government institutions, public figures distinguished for Lithuania, and representatives of important areas for state progress are invited to the council.

The council was last updated this February, when Inga Ruginienė was heading the Government.
BNS wrote that there was a public resonance last December regarding the renewal of the State Progress Council, as some persons who organized protests in the cultural community were removed from it.
At that time, I. Ruginienė told journalists that it is normal to review the composition of the council when the Government changes, and she stated that she wanted to see more left-wing members in the council.
