The intercity train company “PKP Intercity” wrote on the social network “X” that “20 people were injured, four of them seriously.”

“There were about 120 people on the train,” company spokesperson Mateuszas Gdowskis told AFP.

Local media reported that the train traveling from the eastern city of Lublin to the northern port city of Szczecin crashed into a concrete mixer at about 11:20 a.m. local time (12:20 p.m. Lithuanian time) at a crossing near Przysucha, about 100 kilometers southeast of Warsaw.

“Due to the collision, six carriages and the locomotive derailed,” Mazovia police reported on the network “X.”

Images broadcast by local TV stations show the locomotive completely derailed and several carriages behind it that have also come off the tracks.

According to officials, emergency services, railway representatives, and prosecutors are investigating the accident at the scene.
