A family of moles settled in the Kurmaičių Kurmių trail

“A few years ago, the Mole Trail near the Kurmaičiai rest area, created by residents’ initiative, has come to life even more today. Here, the entire mole family has ‘moved in’ – as many as seven stone sculptures created by well-known and respected sculptors from the Kretinga district. I believe they will become a fun hallmark of this trail and delight both children and adults. And the new spot set up on the pond’s shore will not only allow fishermen to settle more comfortably but also let every visitor pause and enjoy nature,” said Vaida Jakumienė, Deputy Mayor of Kretinga district.

The stone mole family was created by Kretinga region sculptors Rasa and Gediminas Staškauskai, and the works cost nearly 15 thousand euros. The fishing spot setup also cost 15 thousand euros. With these funds, a terrace above the water, stairs, and a new path were created.

The Kretinga district municipality is the first district municipality in Lithuania to offer its residents the opportunity to directly allocate part of the Municipality’s budget. Residents of the Kretinga district have been able to submit ideas for the Residents’ Initiative project since 2020.
