The head of the Ukrainian state railway operator “Ukrzaliznytsia”, Oleksandr Percovskyi, announced on the social network “Facebook”: “Another strike hit a diesel suburban train in the Sumy region. Once again, upon noticing the threat, a preventive stop was made in time for safety, and passengers were evacuated.”
“However, according to preliminary data, not everyone was at a safe enough distance and some passengers were injured by shrapnel,” he said.
O. Percovskyi added that the train crew provided first aid to the injured at the scene, and medics arrived later.
He urged passengers in frontline settlements to immediately seek shelter or withdraw more than 200 m away from the train when a safety stop is made and evacuation is announced.
“Railway rolling stock and infrastructure are among the main Russian targets in frontline communities,” said O. Percovskyi.
