“We often think that to noticeably update a room, we first need to change the furniture. However, one of the simplest affordable ways to give a bedroom a new look is textiles. A new bedding set, a fitted sheet, or a soft throw can instantly change not only the room’s appearance and atmosphere but also help make it feel cozier and better,” says Morta Bučinskienė, Head of IKEA Interior Design Department.

Start with the most important – the bed

Since the bed is usually the largest piece of furniture in the bedroom, even small changes to it can noticeably change the entire room’s appearance. One of the quickest ways to update the bedroom is to change the bedding. A new duvet cover can add more color, character, and help create a cozier atmosphere. For example, a plain PILTANDVINGE single duvet and pillowcase set for 9.99 Eur (previously 12.99 Eur) or patterned RODGERSIA duvet and 2 pillowcases for 19.99 Eur (previously 22.99 Eur).

“Changing bedding can have a similar effect as updating a seasonal wardrobe. Lighter colors, stripes, or floral patterns bring freshness to the bedroom without fundamentally changing its interior,” says M. Bučinskienė.

The bedroom – like from an IKEA showroom

Bedrooms set up in IKEA showrooms always look cozy and harmonious, so many try to create a similar look in their own homes. According to the interior designer, one of the secrets is layering textiles. By combining different throws and blankets, you can create a cozier and more finished look for the bedroom.

A throw, for example, HUMLEMOTT for 14.99 Eur (previously 19.99 Eur) or VALLKRASSING for 14.99 Eur (previously 17.99 Eur), can be draped over the foot of the bed or placed on an armchair. This is a simple way to add more coziness to the bedroom, and when the weather cools, the throw will provide extra warmth.

“The bedroom should not look too uniform. By combining bedding, bedspreads, and throws of different textures, you can add more depth and warmth to the interior. This is a simple way to create the impression of a more thoughtful, cozy, and comfortable space,” says the IKEA interior designer.

Let colors do their work

The bedroom should be a space of calm and rest, so soft greens, blues, and neutral colors combined with textiles can help create a relaxing atmosphere. Instead of combining several new colors in the interior, the interior designer recommends choosing one accent shade and repeating it throughout the space.

“Consistently repeated colors help create a harmonious whole. For example, if you choose soft green bedding, the same shade can be repeated in cushions, throws, or even in green plants,” says the IKEA interior designer.

Bring more nature inside

Nature motifs and seasonal details can bring more life to the bedroom. Floral motifs found in bedding collections STRANDLUMMER for 29.99 Eur (previously 34.99 Eur) or SORGMANTEL for 14.99 Eur (previously 17.99 Eur) help bring nature motifs into the interior. You don’t have to limit yourself to textiles – a simple vase with flowers, greenery, or twigs collected during a walk can become an inexpensive interior detail.

“Nature is one of the best sources of inspiration for updating a room. You don’t necessarily need new decorations – sometimes just a few plants or twigs picked from the garden can change the look of a nightstand and reflect the changing seasons at home,” says M. Bučinskienė.
