In recent decades, more and more women are deciding to delay motherhood. There are many reasons for this – financial insecurity, changing attitudes towards family, longer studies, career ambitions, and the desire to first create a more stable life.

Some young people decide not to have children at all. This trend is especially pronounced in economically developed countries. Meanwhile, in developing and poorer countries of the world, the first child is often born much earlier – 18–19 years of age is not unusual there.

Data published by the “World Population Review” allows for comparison of the average age at which women in different countries have their first child. Among the 30 countries where motherhood is delayed the most is Lithuania.
