US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on Saturday that it has “permanently put out of action” one tanker near Kharg Island and another near the Strait of Hormuz, and “completely destroyed” a third in the Gulf of Oman.

CENTCOM stated it “successfully avoided” several attacks by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), targeting a US aircraft carrier and a guided missile destroyer. According to the report, no US soldiers were harmed.
Iranian state media earlier reported that a US missile hit an Iranian oil tanker off the coast of Kharg Island.
“Let the IRGC message be clear: if you shoot at two of our ships, we will make you pay an even greater economic price – we will destroy three of your ships,” said CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper.

“We will defend American forces without hesitation and, if necessary, destroy the limited and vulnerable Iranian oil fleet.”
These strikes were carried out nearly a week after renewed US and Iranian attacks, which began following a month-long relative lull in the conflict between the parties.
On February 28, the US and Israel launched large-scale strikes against Iran. Iran responded by attacking Israel, US bases, and allied states in the Persian Gulf region, effectively closing the Strait of Hormuz to shipping.
