If you are traveling through Sandwich this afternoon, keep in mind that there may be delays or temporary disruptions.
If you are in this area, avoid confrontation and let the police handle the situation.”

It was reported that there could have been about three hundred protesters. Around 2 p.m., it was reported that traffic disruptions had ended, and the Government condemned the protesters’ behavior.

Kent police also faced criticism – in a statement, officers said the protest was “spontaneous.”

The police statement also described the incident as a “spontaneous protest.”
Commentators, including local MP Mike Tapp, expressed concern about the police response and that officers apparently did not know in advance about the planned gathering.
Mr. Tapp and others also believe that the demonstration was pre-planned, as it involved dozens, perhaps hundreds of people. All activists wore similar black clothes and covered their faces, which suggests that their attire may have been coordinated in advance.
The entire police statement reads: “Kent police responded to a spontaneous protest in Dover on the morning of Saturday, September 5. No one was detained.
Traffic is running normally, and all protest participants dispersed by noon.”
Kent police did not specify whether officers decided to use their powers to ban wearing masks and other face coverings.
Mr. Tapp stated that on Monday he will express his concerns about the police actions to colleagues in the government.
