“On May 29, in Neveronys, Kaunas district, an accident occurred whose consequences our family will feel for a very long time. At about 7:40 a.m. on Tvenkinio Street, the family dog Vėtra was hit by a school minibus ‘Mercedes-Benz’. We know that this minibus belongs to Neveronys Gymnasium and at that time was transporting students. We learned about the incident not from the driver, not from the school, and not from the emergency services,” began to tell the story reader Tadas Miškinis.

Accompanied the neighbors’ children
As Tadas told, the family brought Vėtra from Poland – they went to the farthest corner near Zakopane for her. From the first minute, the puppy was loved because she was the first dog in the family’s life.
That morning, Vėtra escaped through a hole in the neighbors’ fence between the thuja and other dense vegetation.
“Vėtra’s visits to the neighbors’ yard always brought smiles to everyone because she was more, as I say, a cat dog rather than a dog: she even played with the neighbors’ cats.
That unfortunate Friday morning, after being let into the yard, she slipped into the neighbors’ plot, played with the neighbors’ girls, and accompanied them to the school minibus. She chased it and got caught under the front wheel. Run over on the belly. With all her strength, she limped to the intersection and collapsed,” said Tadas.

The family was informed about the lying dog by a relative living near the incident site. Tadas immediately rushed to the given address. He found the pet in a weak state – Vėtra did not stand up, did not respond when called.
Later, footage from surveillance cameras installed on the relative’s house was reviewed, and another acquaintance living nearby who witnessed the incident was interviewed – it became clear what happened: the dog was run over by the front wheel, and the driver who did this drove away without even slowing down.
